Working Principle of Mud Cleaner

After weighted drilling fluid passes through the shale shaker, desander and desilter, the cuttings particle size removed decreases successively. Some small solid particles still remain in the drilling fluid.

While the hydrocyclone removes unwanted solids from weighted drilling fluid, considerable barite remains in the underflow. The fine screen under the hydrocyclone underflow removes large cuttings particles, while barite passes through the screen mesh back to the circulating tank. This is the basic working principle of the mud cleaner.

The mud cleaning, purification and separation integrated machine achieves solid-liquid separation through a multi-stage purification process:

1. Primary Screening: Mud enters the shale shaker to separate large cuttings, stones and other impurities via high-frequency vibration, reducing the load of subsequent equipment.

2. Hydrocyclone Separation: Primarily screened mud flows into the hydrocyclones (desander + desilter), which stratifies particles of different sizes by density using centrifugal force. The desander separates sand particles of 45–74 μm, and the desilter separates silt particles of 15–44 μm.

3. Fine Filtration: The separated mud is further filtered by an underflow shale shaker or dewatering screen to ensure thorough removal of solid particles and stable mud performance.

4. Recycling: Purified mud can be reused, reducing waste mud discharge and meeting environmental protection requirements.
