Mud Cleaner

  • TR Mud Cleaner combines a desander, desilter and underflow shaker for drilling fluid solids control. 1,000–1,500 GPM models with 10" and 4" hydrocyclones.
  • Description

Mud Cleaner Overview

A Mud Cleaner combines a desander, desilter and shale shaker on one skid. Installed downstream of the primary shale shaker, it handles the secondary and tertiary stages of solids control, removing sand and finer solids from the drilling fluid.

Cyclone underflow drops onto the shaker screen, where drilling fluid is recovered before the solids are discharged. The integrated layout saves space and provides a large screening area for liquid recovery.

Mud Cleaners are used in both weighted and unweighted drilling-fluid systems where fine-solids removal and fluid recovery are required.

Key Features

  1. 3-in-1 Configuration: Desander, desilter and underflow shaker in one skid.

  2. Hydrocyclones: Polyurethane or high-chrome cast iron with PU lining for abrasive drilling fluids.

  3. Cyclone Control: Manifold valves allow individual cone banks to be isolated.

  4. Shaker Basket: Heat-treated high-manganese steel shaker basket for high-G operation.

  5. Vibration Motors: Martin or OLI vibration motors.

  6. G-Force Adjustment: Adjustable vibration force for different mud conditions.

  7. Screen Mounting: Plate-tension or wedge-block screen mounting.

  8. Electrical Components: Schneider or Siemens electrical components.

Working Principle

Drilling fluid enters the desander hydrocyclones under pressure. Centrifugal force separates heavier solids from the liquid. The solids leave through the cyclone underflow, while the overflow moves to the desilter stage.

The desilter removes finer solids. Both cyclone underflows feed the shaker screen. Vibration moves the solids toward the discharge while drilling fluid passes through the screen and returns to the mud tank.

Flow Path: Feed Mud → Desander Cones → Desilter Cones → Underflow Shaker → Recovered Drilling Fluid / Dry Solids

Selection Guide

  1. Flow Rate: Use the rig's maximum circulating rate to size the unit.

  2. Mud Properties: Provide mud weight, viscosity and solids loading.

  3. Cyclones: Select the desander and desilter cone count for the required flow.

  4. Screening: Screen area and mesh range

  5. Installation: Check footprint, connections and solids discharge clearance.

Send TR your operating data and installation requirements for model selection.

FAQ

  • Can the Mud Cleaner handle oil-based mud?

Yes. Seals and wetted materials can be specified for oil-based mud service.

  • Does the Mud Cleaner require a separate feed pump?

Yes. A centrifugal pump is normally used to supply the hydrocyclones at the required feed pressure.

  • Can the number of working hydrocyclones be adjusted?

Yes. Isolation valves allow individual cones or cone banks to be taken out of service.

  • Can TR supply the Mud Cleaner as part of a complete solids control system?

Yes. TR can integrate the Mud Cleaner with shakers, pumps, tanks, centrifuges and other solids control equipment.

TR Manufacturing

Mud Cleaners are fabricated, assembled and factory-tested at TR's Xi'an facility. Flow rate, cyclone arrangement, screen specification and electrical requirements can be specified for each project.

TR holds API and ISO 9001 certifications. Mud Cleaners are available as standalone units or as part of complete solids control systems.
