A sludge vacuum pump is a pneumatic conveying pump built for thick sludge, drill cuttings, and solid-liquid mixtures. Unlike rotary or progressive cavity pumps, the sludge vacuum pump has no rotating parts inside the material flow path, reducing clogging and wear when handling abrasive solids.
The pump handles drill cuttings with embedded solids, high-viscosity waste mud, tank-bottom sludge, and mixtures containing rocks, sand, and debris up to 70 mm in diameter. It also transfers powders, thin fluids, sewage, oil sludge, and heavy emulsions across a single unit.
TR sludge vacuum pumps are rated for 50 meters of suction lift and 1,000 meters of discharge distance. They run continuously with no runtime limit. Discharged material can also be lifted 80 meters vertically, moving waste from the pit bottom to grade and then hundreds of meters to a disposal point.
This level of solids handling and long-distance conveying comes from a pneumatic cycle that runs without electricity.
The pump runs a two-phase pneumatic cycle: vacuum suction followed by pressure discharge.
Suction phase. Compressed air passes through the venturi system to create negative pressure inside the tank. The inlet valve opens, and atmospheric pressure pushes sludge, cuttings, and liquid mixtures through the suction hose into the tank. The fill rate depends on vacuum strength and material viscosity.
Discharge phase. When the tank reaches capacity, a float or timer closes the vacuum valve. The tank is pressurized, the discharge valve opens, and the collected material is transferred through the discharge pipeline.
The cycle repeats automatically through a pneumatic control system, reducing the need for manual operation or electrical control equipment.

TR sludge vacuum pumps works across oilfield drilling, mining, metallurgy, tunnel construction, land reclamation, sewage treatment, and chemical engineering.
In oilfield solids control, the pump is commonly used for transferring drill cuttings, waste mud, centrifuge discharge, and tank-bottom sludge during drilling and waste management processes.

The main choice is throughput and mobility.
For programs producing 20 m³/h or less of cuttings and waste, the TRSP-20L or TRSP-25W handles the volume. If the pump moves between locations, the wheel-mounted TRSP-25W is the better pick. If it stays in one spot, the TRSP-20L costs less and takes less space.
For programs above 25 m³/h, or for discharge runs exceeding 500 meters, the TRSP-40L is recommended for higher flow rates or longer discharge distances. Its 4-inch ports and 13 m³/min air consumption push more material faster and farther.
How is this different from a rotary pump or progressive cavity pump?
Rotary and progressive cavity pumps put impellers or rotors directly in the flow path. Abrasive solids wear them down and large particles jam them. A sludge vacuum pump has no moving parts in the flow path. Solids up to 70 mm pass straight through.
What happens if the discharge line gets blocked?
The relief valve opens at the compressor set point. The operator reverses the cycle, pulls the blockage back, and resumes discharge. With a 50 to 70 mm solids passage, persistent blockages are rare.
How do I match the right compressor?
TRSP-40L needs 13 m³/min at 650 to 800 kPa (a 185 CFM diesel portable). TRSP-25W and TRSP-20L need 6.5 m³/min at 550 to 700 kPa (a 90 CFM portable).
Can the pump run continuously?
Yes. No runtime limit, no duty cycle. It cycles as long as compressed air is supplied. A bypass line with a backup pump lets maintenance happen without shutting down the line.
