Mud Agitator

Mud Agitator

  • TRJBQ Series mud agitators for drilling fluid tanks, with 3–22 kW motors, single or double impellers, and tank-matched shafts for oilfield drilling, HDD, and geothermal systems.
  • Description

Drilling Mud agitator

The TRJBQ Series horizontal mud agitator keeps drilling fluid moving in mud tanks during circulation and storage. Continuous agitation helps keep cuttings and weighting material suspended and reduces solids settling at the tank bottom.

The agitator combines a motor, gear reducer, shaft, impeller, and mounting base. Models range from 3 to 22 kW, with single or double impellers and shaft lengths matched to the tank depth.

Features of Mud Agitator

  1. High-torque geared drive for steady mixing at low impeller speed; cycloidal reducers up to 5.5 kW, worm gear reducers from 7.5 kW.

  2. Direct or coupling drive options for different motor and gearbox configurations.

  3. Above-tank drive arrangement keeps the motor and reducer clear of drilling fluid.

  4. Four-blade canted impeller with centre disc for fluid circulation and reduced solids buildup.

  5. Single or double impeller options for different tank depths.

  6. Custom shaft and impeller configurations for different mud tank dimensions.

  7. Bottom shaft stabilizer available for deep tank compartments.

  8. Carbon steel or stainless steel wetted components; explosion-proof motor options for hazardous areas.

Working Principle

The motor drives the gear reducer, which reduces speed and increases torque before turning the vertical agitator shaft inside the tank. The horizontal drive assembly stays above the tank while the shaft extends down into the drilling fluid.

The canted impeller drives the fluid downward and outward, setting up circulation throughout the tank compartment. This movement keeps solids suspended and helps prevent sediment from collecting on the tank bottom.

Applications for Drilling Fluid Agitator

  • Oil & Gas Drilling

The TRJBQ Series is designed for active mud tanks, suction tanks, reserve tanks, and other drilling-fluid compartments requiring continuous agitation.

  • HDD Mud Recycling

In HDD systems, the agitator keeps bentonite- and polymer-based drilling fluids uniform in storage and mixing tanks.

  • Geothermal & Water Well Drilling

The agitator is suited for drilling-fluid tanks used in geothermal and water-well drilling systems.

Selection Guide

The agitator is selected based on the tank dimensions, mud weight, operating conditions, and power supply. Compartment depth affects the shaft length and impeller arrangement, while fluid volume and mud weight help determine the motor power.

For a quotation, provide the compartment length, width, and internal fluid depth, maximum mud weight, power supply, and area classification. TR will confirm the model, shaft length, impeller arrangement, and motor configuration.

FAQ

  • Can the agitator be installed on an existing mud tank?

Yes. Shaft length, mounting dimensions, and impeller arrangement can be matched to the tank. Send the tank drawing or mounting dimensions for review.

  • How is the motor power selected?

Motor power depends on tank volume, mud weight, fluid depth, and mixing duty. TR selects the motor and impeller arrangement from the tank and mud conditions.

  • Is an explosion-proof motor available?

Yes. Explosion-proof motor configurations are offered for hazardous-area installations. Specify the area classification and electrical standard when ordering.
