Vertical Sand Pump

  • TR's LSB vertical sand pump transfers drilling fluid, feeds centrifuges, and circulates slurry in oilfield solids control. Vertical submerged design needs no priming. 50/60 Hz, LSB50 to LSB150.
  • Description

The Vertical Sand Pump is a cantilever centrifugal pump for transferring drilling fluid that carries abrasive solids and suspended particles.

Also referred to as  a vertical slurry pump or a vertical submersible slurry pump. Its vertical shaft places the impeller below the mud line, so it handles high-density fluid containing sand, drill cuttings, and other suspended solids for solids control systems.

LSB Series Vertical Slurry Pump includes four models: LSB150, LSB100, LSB80, and LSB50. All run on 50 Hz or 60 Hz and can be set up for different drilling fluid systems.

Features Of Vertical Cantilever Slurry Pump

  1. The vertical layout keeps the footprint small, which helps on crowded solids control skids.

  2. It draws slurry straight from the tank, so it needs no suction piping or priming.

  3. The vertical cantilever, single-casing build keeps the motor above the liquid and removes the need for a submerged shaft seal.

  4. Wear parts are built to handle abrasive fluids carrying grit and solids.

  5. The seal uses a non-contact labyrinth design. With less rubbing, it wears slowly and leaks less.

  6. Multiple models available to match different flow, head, and system requirements.

Working Principle of Vertical Submersible Slurry Pump

TR Vertical Sand Pump relies on centrifugal force generated by the rotating impeller to transfer drilling fluid. The pump head operates below the mud level, allowing direct intake of slurry and continuous transfer during operation.

Drilling fluid enters through the suction inlet and  the impeller speeds it up. The increased velocity and pressure move the slurry to downstream equipment for further processing.

The submerged design and labyrinth sealing structure help reduce wear caused by abrasive particles, making the pump suitable for continuous operation in harsh drilling environments.

Applications Of Oilfield Vertical Sand Pump

The LSB Series Sand Pump handles drilling fluid transfer, centrifuge feeding, and slurry circulation in oilfield solids control.

After the shale shaker, the pump moves drilling fluid from the mud tank to desanders and desilters so the fine solids can be removed.

It also feeds centrifuges, moving drilling mud that still carries suspended abrasive solids through continuous solids control.

The compact vertical build suits mud tank transfer and circulation where space is limited. It can also run with a jet mixing system for fluid preparation and adding chemicals.

The pump works in HDD mud recycling and other slurry jobs that involve sand, cuttings, and heavy fluid.

FAQ

Vertical sand pump vs submersible pump: what is the difference?

A vertical sand pump hangs the impeller below the mud line while the motor stays above the tank. A submersible pump puts the whole motor underwater. The LSB Series uses a cantilever, single-casing build, so the motor stays dry and the labyrinth seal avoids the leaks a submerged motor can develop.
