Oily Sludge Treatment System

  • Oily sludge treatment systems separate oil, water, and solids from oily waste to recover oil, reuse water, and reduce sludge volume.
  • Description

TR Oily Sludge Treatment System handles spilled oily sludge, tank-bottom sludge, tank cleaning sludge and oil-contaminated soil, with the process reducing overall sludge volume and petroleum content in the treated solids.

Configurations include skid-mounted, truck-mounted and stationary systems for mobile operations, temporary sites and permanent installations.

Key Advantages

  1. Low residual oil: Under specified feed conditions, treated solids can reach a petroleum content of ≤2%.

  2. Oil-water-solid separation: Separates the oil, water and solid phases for downstream handling.

  3. Oil recovery: Separated oil can be recovered for further processing.

  4. Water reuse: Separated water that meets the reuse criteria can be returned to the treatment circuit.

  5. Flexible deployment: Skid-mounted and truck-mounted configurations suit mobile and temporary treatment operations.

  6. Expandable capacity: Multiple modules can be combined when higher capacity is required.

  7. Heating flexibility: Electric, steam or thermal oil heating can be selected based on the available site heating source.

  8. PLC control: Centralized system operation and monitoring via PLC.

  9. Low chemical consumption: Minimal chemical dosing reduces chemical use during operation.

  10. Simple operation: Two operators per shift handle routine operation.

How the System Works

Oily sludge enters the heating and conditioning stage, where heating lowers viscosity and promotes oil release from the solid phase. Conditioning improves the separation of oil, water and solids. The material then passes through screening to remove coarse solids.

After screening, the material undergoes secondary heating and conditioning before solid-liquid and oil-water separation. The separated oil is recovered for further processing. The water phase is returned to the treatment circuit when it meets the required reuse criteria, while the treated solids leave the system for further handling or disposal.

Applications

TR Oily Sludge Treatment Systems handle oily waste generated during oil production, storage, tank cleaning and contaminated-site treatment.

Typical feed materials include:

  • Spilled oily sludge

  • Tank-bottom sludge

  • Tank cleaning sludge

  • Oilfield oily waste

  • Oil-contaminated soil

Oil-contaminated soil may require feed preparation before treatment, depending on particle size and moisture content.

Oily Sludge Treatment System Selection Guide

  • Capacity: 5–30 m³/h per standard configuration, with multiple modules available for higher-capacity treatment.

  • Heating: Electric, steam or thermal oil based on the available site heating source.

  • Installation options: Skid-mounted, truck-mounted or stationary treatment facilities.

  • Feed material: Oil and water content, solids concentration, particle size and viscosity are key selection factors. Salt or chloride content also matters where corrosion resistance or material selection is a concern.

TR Manufacturing & Engineering

TR Solids Control manufactures oily sludge treatment systems at its Xi'an facility. TR can supply individual units or complete treatment systems for different capacity and deployment requirements.
