Desilter is solid-liquid separation device in solid control system for oil drilling, with shale shaker usually equipped at its bottom for fine screening. The rational selection of shaker screen directly affects mud cleaning efficiency, cuttings treatment effect and equipment operation stability, so it should be selected based on multiple factors.

The shaker screen matched with the desilter's underflow shale shaker needs to comprehensively consider mud properties, processing capacity and separation precision, as well as screen mesh count, material and cuttings dryness.
By drilling fluid type:
Water-based drilling fluid: Finer shaker screens are recommended for better treatment results.
Weighted mud: For weighted mud, finer screens are advised to recover barite, yet attention should be paid to potential wet cuttings, which requires matching with high-efficiency shale shakers.
By solid particle size:Desilters are usually installed after desanders to handle finer particles, so the screen mesh count is generally 100-200 mesh or even finer, subject to the particle size of drilling mud.
By cuttings dryness requirement: If dry cuttings are required, select shaker screens matched with medium or large underflow shale shakers for drier cuttings.

Material selection: Soft shaker screen without metal backing plate, with mesh cloth directly bonded to hooked edges on both sides.
Mesh count: 80-120 mesh screens are sufficient for conventional drilling to separate most fine cuttings.
Weighted mud condition: For weighted mud treatment, higher mesh count screens should be selected to reduce barite loss.
Cuttings dryness: If the desilter underflow cuttings are too wet, replace with finer mesh or more water-permeable screens to improve dryness.
Equipment matching: Screens must match the size and tensioning method of the underflow shale shaker.

TR Solids Control's desilter is equipped with soft hooked edge shaker screens at the bottom. Rational selection of screen mesh count and material can effectively improve the mud cleaning efficiency of the desilter and the service life of the shaker screen. The shaker screen for oil drilling mud cleaning is fixed on the shale shaker via hooked edge connection, featuring high filtration efficiency and easy installation, and is suitable for shale shakers with different processing capacities.
Soft hooked edge shaker screens have a larger effective filtration area than flat screens and are more cost-effective, but with relatively shorter service life. Different screens should be selected according to specific drilling operation conditions. TR Solids Control can customize soft flat shaker screens of various specifications and sizes to meet different customer needs.
