The double deck shale shaker is high-efficiency solid-liquid separation equipment used for high-load mud purification in oil drilling, trenchless engineering (such as horizontal directional drilling), shield tunneling, and geothermal well operations. Compared with single deck shale shakers, the double deck shale shaker significantly increases the effective screening area within a limited floor space through vertically stacked double-layer screens, thereby improving processing capacity and separation efficiency.

The upper coarse screen intercepts large-grain drill cuttings, while the lower fine screen accurately purifies the mud. Under the same floor space conditions, the filtration area and processing capacity are significantly improved compared with single deck screens, effectively reducing the load and energy consumption of subsequent desanding and desilting equipment.
Upper Screen: Located below the feed inlet, with larger screen mesh. The cuttings-containing mud returned from the wellhead first flows here for the first-stage separation, aiming to intercept and discharge the larger drill cuttings or gravel.
Lower Screen: Located below the upper screen plate, with finer screen mesh. The mud passing through the upper screen plate falls here for the second-stage separation, aiming to separate fine sand particles.
Vibration Source: Usually driven by two or more high-performance vibration motors. The motors generate strong exciting force, making the screen box move in a linear, elliptical or double-track motion, so that the mud is thrown forward on the screen surface and passes through the screen.
Screen Fixing: Most double deck shale shakers adopt airbag compression or modular quick locking devices to ensure that the screen does not loosen under high-frequency vibration, and the screen replacement is very fast (only a few minutes).
Angle Adjustment: Equipped with hydraulic lifting or mechanical adjustment devices, the inclination angle of the screen box can be adjusted in real time (usually between -5° to +5°) according to the mud viscosity and processing capacity requirements, so as to optimize the sand discharge speed and liquid recovery rate.
The entire screen box generates high-frequency vibration (common vibration trajectories are linear or elliptical) driven by the exciter/vibration motor, which can promote the rapid stratification and screening of solid particles in the mud. The drilling returned mud first enters the upper coarse screen surface, and large-grain drill cuttings are quickly transported and discharged; the mud passing through the upper layer flows to the lower fine screen to further separate small solids; the purified mud flows into the circulation tank to realize graded solids control, reducing the load and energy consumption of subsequent desanders, desilters and centrifuges.
Oil and Gas Drilling: As the first line of defense in the mud circulation system, it removes cuttings generated by bit breaking.
Trenchless Engineering (HDD): In the construction of crossing rivers and highways, it recovers bentonite mud, reduces construction costs and meets environmental protection emission requirements.
Coalbed Methane and Shale Gas Development: Treats high-sand mud under complex geological conditions.
Environmental Sludge Treatment: Used for dewatering and solidification treatment of river dredging and construction piling mud.
Processing Capacity: Select according to the maximum displacement of the drilling pump (common models have a processing capacity ranging from 40m³/h to 360m³/h).
Screen Mesh: Choose the appropriate screen combination based on formation cutting size and mud viscosity.
Motion Trajectory: Linear type is suitable for dehydration, while elliptical or double-track type is suitable for high-viscosity mud and is not easy to block the screen.
Explosion-Proof Grade: When used in oil and gas field sites, the motor and electrical control system must comply with the corresponding explosion-proof standards (such as Ex d IIB T4).
