Mud shear pump (turbine shear pump) is key piece of equipment for fully shearing polymers/clays in drilling fluid systems. Adopting horizontal axial suction structure, it consists of motor, pump casing, turbine, shear wheel, etc. Equipped with reliable mechanical composite seals, it features low leakage risk. Uses of Mud Shear Pump

1. Dispersion & Hydration

High-speed impellers and shear plates generate strong shearing force to break down "fish eyes" or agglomerates, enabling full hydration and dispersion of polymers and other additives, thus optimizing drilling fluid performance.

Operation Methods of Mud Shear Pump

  1. Standard Installation:The mixing hopper can be installed in high or low position. High-position installation allows direct discharge into the mud tank, while low-position installation requires ensuring the outlet directly connects to the tank to avoid overflow.

  2. Drive & Pipeline Configuration:The motor drives the impeller to rotate at high speed for mud suction. The shear mixing hopper can be powered by an electric mud mixing pump to achieve shearing and dispersion during fluid flow.

  3. Shearing Operation:Mud passes through nozzles to generate turbulence and impact effects, breaking agglomerated particles and stretching polymer molecular chains.

  4. Circulation Treatment:Sheared mud is recycled back to the mud tank. Multiple cycles of treatment are recommended to ensure uniformity and stable performance.

  5. Adjustment & Maintenance:Adjust the distance between the nozzle and the outlet according to mixing efficiency. Regularly inspect the impeller and seals to extend the equipment service life.
