Centrifugal Pump

  • TR Centrifugal Pump is used for mud circulation in drilling mud systems. TR offers 7.5kW to 75kW models for mud mixing, slurry transfer, and solids control systems.
  • Description

Drilling Centrifugal Pump

Centrifugal Sand Pumps are drilling fluid pumps for transferring mud, water and slurry in drilling and solids control systems.

It is commonly used to feed desanders and desilters, supply jet mud mixers, charge rig mud pumps, and transfer drilling fluid between tanks.

All TR centrifugal pumps use tungsten carbide mechanical seals and premium-brand bearings for reliable operation in abrasive service. The open impeller design reduces axial thrust and simplifies installation, repair, and maintenance.

Advantages of Centrifugal Pump

  • Wear-Resistant Casing: Thick-wall alloy cast iron construction withstands abrasive drilling fluids and slurry.

  • High-Chrome Open Impeller: Wide open vanes lower axial thrust and reduce bearing load.

  • Tungsten Carbide Mechanical Seal: Hard-alloy faces provide tight sealing in abrasive slurries, with packing seal available as an alternative.

  • SKF Bearings & Oil Seal: SKF bearings and heat-resistant fluoroelastomer oil seal support smooth, steady operation.

  • Replaceable Shaft Sleeve: Protects the shaft from wear and eases maintenance.

  • Cast Pump Skid: Cast construction reduces vibration and extends pump and motor life.

  • Mission-Compatible Spare Parts: Interchangeable with Mission pump parts, simplifying parts sourcing.

Centrifugal Pump Working Principle

A centrifugal pump uses a rotating impeller to transfer fluid. The motor drives the impeller at high speed via the shaft.

Drilling fluid enters through the suction inlet and flows into the center of the impeller. The impeller accelerates the fluid outward by centrifugal force. The pump casing then converts part of the fluid velocity into pressure and directs the fluid to the discharge outlet.

Applications — Where Is It Used?

HDD Mud Recycling

Moves recovered drilling fluid through recycling systems, including hydrocyclone feeding, bentonite slurry transfer, and mud circulation between tanks.

The TRSB8×6×11 covers most mid-to-large HDD spreads.

The TRSB6×5×11 and TRSB5×4×14 suit compact recycling units on truck-mounted or containerized setups.

Oil & Gas Drilling

Used for drilling fluid circulation and solids control systems, including desander and desilter feeding, jet mud mixing, and fluid transfer between tanks.

The TRSB8×6×14 provides the flow and head required for large-diameter hydrocyclones on rigs drilling beyond 3,000 m.

The TRSB8×6×11 handles the same duties on shallower rigs and can also serve as a charging pump for triplex mud pumps.

CBM Drilling

Used for drilling fluid transfer, solids control equipment feeding, and mud tank circulation.

The TRSB8×6×11 handles fluid transfer, equipment feeding, and mud‑tank circulation for CBM pad operations. For metering and chemical dosing, the TRSB4×3×13 delivers precise low‑flow output.

Bored Pile & Microtunneling

Handles bentonite slurry and other process fluids in slurry separation and recycling systems.

Larger‑bore pile projects use the TRSB8×6×11 for slurry separation.

Compact microtunneling setups run the TRSB6×5×11 or TRSB5×4×14.

For clean‑water transfer, the TRSB3×2×13 handles light‑duty pumping.

Selection Guide of Drilling Fluids Centrifugal Pump

  • Flow and head come first. Select a pump that meets the required flow rate and head at the actual operating point. For desanders, desilters and jet mixers, the pump should match the flow and pressure required by the connected equipment.

  • Fluid conditions determine the pump configuration. Mud density, solids percentage, particle size, viscosity, temperature, and abrasiveness all determine which impeller material, seal type, and casing thickness you need. A pump running weighted oil-based mud at SG 1.8 wears differently than one running bentonite slurry at SG 1.05.

  • Installation conditions also constrain the selection. Suction and discharge pipe diameters, motor power, voltage and frequency, and available space around the tank setup all matter. For Mission pump replacements, the existing model number, impeller size, and mounting dimensions help confirm a direct match.

FAQ

  1. How often does the mechanical seal need to be replaced?

Seal life depends on fluid abrasiveness, solids content, temperature, and operating conditions. Regular inspection helps detect wear early.

  2. Are spare parts readily available?

TR supplies replacement parts for the pump and interchangeable components for corresponding Mission models. This makes parts sourcing and maintenance easier.

  3. Is the centrifugal sand pump difficult to maintain?

The open impeller, replaceable shaft sleeve, and easy‑access seal assembly simplify routine inspection and wear‑part replacement.
