The vacuum degasser is a specialized device used to remove dissolved gases from liquids by creating a vacuum environment, facilitating gas-liquid separation. Its applications span multiple industries, including oil and gas, metallurgy, and HVAC systems, where gas removal is critical for process efficiency, product quality, and equipment longevity.

1. Oil and Gas Industry

Drilling Fluid Processing:

Vacuum degassers are essential in drilling operations to eliminate invading gases (e.g., methane, hydrogen sulfide) from drilling mud. By restoring mud density and viscosity, they stabilize wellbore pressure, prevent blowouts, and reduce equipment wear.

Example: Models like TRZCQ-270 and ZCQ360 achieve >95% degassing efficiency, handling up to 360 m³/h of mud. These units use negative pressure to break gas bubbles, with vacuum pumps maintaining optimal pressure (-0.03 to -0.065 MPa) for effective separation.

Mud Recycling Systems:

Integrated into solids control systems, vacuum degassers support closed-loop mud management, cutting waste disposal costs by 90% and minimizing environmental impact.

2. Metallurgical Industry

Steel Refining:

Vacuum degassing units (e.g., VD/VOD) are pivotal in secondary metallurgy for producing high-purity steel. By removing hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon under vacuum, they enhance steel ductility, reduce inclusions, and improve fatigue resistance.

Process: Liquid steel is placed in a vacuum tank, and inert gas stirring promotes decarburization. For stainless steel, VOD (Vacuum Oxygen Decarburization) units inject oxygen to achieve ultra-low carbon levels (<0.015%).

Non-Ferrous Metals:

Similar principles apply in aluminum and copper refining, where vacuum degassing eliminates hydrogen porosity, ensuring defect-free castings.

3. HVAC and Water Treatment

Central Air Conditioning Systems:

Vacuum degassers eliminate microbubbles from circulating water, preventing airlocks and corrosion in chillers and boilers. By reducing oxygen content, they extend equipment lifespan by 3–5 years and improve heat exchange efficiency by 25%.

Example: SJL-140C/H models process 3,000 m³ of water, cutting energy consumption by 15–20% through reduced pump load.

Industrial Water Networks:

In district heating systems, vacuum degassing minimizes thermal losses caused by gas accumulation in pipes, ensuring consistent heat delivery.

4. Chemical and Food Processing

Juice and Beverage Production:

Vacuum degassing removes air from fruit juices and protein drinks, preventing oxidation and flavor degradation. This extends shelf life and maintains product quality.

Process: Degassing is often combined with centrifugal separation to eliminate suspended solids alongside gases.

Organic Silicone Manufacturing:

In elasticity production, vacuum degassing ensures product physical properties by removing volatile gases that could cause defects during curing.

5. Environmental and Geotechnical Engineering

Coalbed Methane Extraction:

Vacuum degassers separate methane from drilling fluid during gas exploration, enhancing safety and enabling gas recovery for energy use.

Sludge Treatment:

In wastewater plants, vacuum degassing reduces odor emissions by removing hydrogen sulfide and other gases from sludge before dewatering.
