The desilter is a tertiary solids control device in the drilling fluid solids control system. Its function is to separate solid particles of 15-47 microns in the drilling fluid through the synergistic effect of the cyclone and the vibrating screen, thereby reducing the sand content and improving the stability of the drilling fluid.

A drilling desilter consists of a vibrating screen, a diverter manifold, and a cyclone. The desilter is designed based on the principle of sedimentation. The overflow from the cyclone returns to the drilling fluid system, and the underflow falls onto the vibrating screen. While the cyclone removes unwanted solids from the weighted drilling fluid, a large amount of barium is present in the underflow. The sieve under the cyclone's underflow separates large solid particles, while the barium passes through the screen and returns to the circulation tank.
The new, highly efficient desilter (integrated desilter) combines a high-G-force variable-path vibrating screen with an extended conical cyclone design to more effectively separate finer, drier materials, saving operating costs and reducing centrifuge pressure. Desilters are essential drilling fluid treatment equipment. Through efficient solids control technology, they effectively remove solids from drilling fluids, ensuring smooth drilling operations.
